IC design methodology (schematic, netlists, hardware description language, simulation, hardware synthesis, layout, DRC, LVS, parasitic extraction, post-layout simulation, tape-out). Contemporary IC fabrication technologies (eg, CMOS, GaAs) and design issues in these technologies. Reconfigurable hardware CPLDs/FPGAs (architecture, logic blocks interconnection etc)
Lab exercises: Introduction to VHDL, description of combinatorial and sequential circuits (adders, (de)multiplexers, (de)coders, comparators, flip flops, registers, counters) with VHDL |

Advanced Topics in the Design of Digital Systems |

Low power requirements of digital systems. Power consumption sources in CMOS circuits. Power estimation based on simulation, probabilistic power estimation, optimization for low power at circuit level, gate level, RTL level and system level.
Physical faults and their modelling (short cuts, oper circuits, transistors that are always on or off). Test set and its compression. Test points, shift paths, JTAG interface, other Built In Self Test (BIST) techniques.
