Description - Research Areas |
| The LABORATORY OF ANIMAL HUSBANDRY was created with the main objective to provide consulting services in the applied animal production with the use of infrastructure of the individual laboratories of Infectious diseases, Microbiology, Parasitology, Nutrition, Agricultural Chemistry – Biochemistry – Meat Technology, Milk Technology and Reproduction.
The infrastructure of the above laboratories aims to support the educational and research needs on fields of Agricultural Science and specific Animal Production, as well as offering consulting services and laboratory analyses to local agro-livestock holdings of primary production, both in the fields of feed crop production, animal production and food technology. In addition, the LABORATORY OF ANIMAL HUSBANDRY with the analytical infrastructure provides chemical and microbiological analysis services for determining the polluting load of industrial farms and food industries of animal origin. |

| 1. Hematological, Biochemical, and Serology tests for farm animals (Hematological: HB, PCV,RBC, MCV, MCH, MCHC, PLT, WPV, WBC, NEUTROPHILS, LYMPOCYTES, MONOCYTES, EOSINOPHILS, BASOPHILS, RETICS. Biochemical: ADL, ALB, AST, ALT, LDH, GGT, GLU, CK, CRE, LIPASE, URE, TRIG, CHOL, LDL, HDL, K, NA, MG, P, CA κ.α.)
2. Microbiological analyses for various pathogens.
3. Diagnosis of viral and bacteriological animal diseases.
4. Microbiological and chemical water analyses.
5. Analyses of dangerous mycotoxins in feedstuffs, milk, meats.
6. Analyses of dioxins in food, water and air.
7. Analyses of various types of heavy metal in food, agricultural products, feedstuffs, water and soils.
8. Profile analyses of fatty acids and sugars.
9. Analyses of total moisture, protein, fat and sugar.
10. Analyses of acidity, total salt, ash, sulphites.
11. Evaluation, processing and freezing of semen in farm animals.
12. Application of various protocols for oestrus synchronization in farm animals.
13. Application of artificial insemination in farm animals.
14. Confirmatory Analyses for the needs of AGRO1, 2-3 and GLOBALGAP systems (Integrated Management Systems).
15. Confirmatory Analyses for the needs of ISO 22000:2005 for food industries.
Detection of adulteration in food (e.g., milk and honey).

Activities |
| The mission of the laboratory is summarized in the following:
1. Promotion of the science and research in the field in which it operates.
2. The support of the teaching and curricular needs at least of the three Divisions of the Department of the Technological Agriculturist of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology and Food Technology and Nutrition of TEI of Thessaly.
3. The support of the teaching needs of postgraduate studies with specialized precision analyses
4. The conduction of applied or basic research, or within the framework of national importance research projects or European.
5. Dissemination of scientific knowledge by conducting workshops, conferences and publications in peer review journals in Greece and abroad.
6. Accreditation to ISO 17025 (management systems for Testing and Calibration Laboratories)
7. Cooperation with other academic institutions in Greece and abroad as well as with other detailed structures with similar or complementary analytical interests.
8. Cooperation with private companies to provide services in the context of chemical and microbiological analysis and providing specialized services reward.
9. Making premium expertise for issues which require chemical analysis for a decision to be taken by the authorities and the courts.
